I love adding cranberries to many recipes, but so many store-bought sweetened dried cranberries are PACKED with tons of sugar. We don’t eat regular sugar and do everything we can to find alternatives. I was on a mission to make my own sugar-free dried cranberries, so I didn’t have to worry about the other junk that is processed with them.
Once you try to make your own homemade dried cranberries without added sugar, I am certain that you are going to want to make this recipe time and time again. You don’t even have to have a food dehydrator.
It’s not a huge secret that I enjoy making recipes that have my beloved cranberries in them. Their sweet tart flavor is irresistible to me. I love them in my Keto Cranberry Bliss Bars or my White Chocolate Cranberry Bread. They are perfect for the holiday season. These also taste better in keto recipes than just using unsweetened dried cranberries.
They are keto-friendly, low-carb, gluten-free, grain-free, and a Trim Healthy Mama fuel pull. Only 3 net carbs per serving.

Ingredients
Cranberries – You can use frozen or fresh cranberries; however, frozen cranberries seem to work better in this. If you have fresh, pop them in the freezer overnight before proceeding I prefer to use organic cranberries when I can find them, but conventional ones work too.
Sweetener – I use my sweetener blend of sugar alcohols (xylitol, erythritol, and/or allulose) and stevia, but any sweetener should work. See the notes section of the recipe card for conversions. This really can just be sweetened to taste. You can use a powdered sweetener, monk fruit, or any other sugar free sweetener you enjoy.

How To Make Sugar Free Dried Cranberries
First Step: Begin by combining the raw cranberries and ½ cup of the sweetener in a large skillet. Cook them on low and stir occasionally.

You will need to cook them for 1 hour or so. They will begin to pop, the juice evaporates, and they start to dry out. You can cook for longer than an hour if needed. They will start looking like craisins at this point.

Second Step: After the cranberries look dried out, pour in the rest of the sweetener and give them a taste. You can add more sweetener if they aren’t sweet enough for your tastes.

Third Step: Sprinkle the cranberries onto a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. Allow them to sit out for a few hours so they can finish drying out.
👉 Tip: If you want to speed up the drying process, you can put them in the oven on the lowest setting to help the moisture evaporate. Not more than 150 degrees. If you have a bread proof setting that works well.
Give them a stir on occasion. Adjust the sweetness by adding a little more sweetener, stir, and separate them.
If they still feel a little sticky, simply pop them in the fridge. Once they chill, you can transfer the dry cranberries to a plastic container for storage.
Storage
To store the sugar-free dried cranberries, put them inside an airtight storage container or jar. They should be kept in the refrigerator.
Additionally, you can store the cranberries in the freezer. It’s best to flash freeze them on a baking sheet for a couple of hours. Then add them to a freezer bag or another airtight container. They will last 6-8 months in the freezer.
You may find a bit of grittiness with longer storage.

Variations
- Vanilla – Stir in a teaspoon of vanilla when the cranberries begin popping.
- Cinnamon – Add half a teaspoon of cinnamon along with the sweetener.
- Oven Method – If you want to dry your cranberries in the oven, you will need to add coconut oil or avocado oil. Toss the cranberries with oil and sweetener in a large bowl. The oil will help keep them chewy without drying out. Bake on a rimmed baking sheet at 200 for about 4 hours and then leave the tray in the oven overnight.

I’ve been making these like this for the last 40 years and it works great. I’ve also dried cherries from my cherry tree and blueberries, when I had a bunch. After I get them all dried, I put them into zipper snack bags and freeze them. I put them into the snack bags because you don’t usually use too many at a time. I do buy the Kroger low sugar dried cranberries when I’m out of my own, but they do have too much sugar, even though it’s lower than Ocean Sprays. Sometimes I cook the dried fruit right in my baking and sometimes I rehydrate them first. While the dried fruit does have natural sugars, it’s minimal if you don’t use too many and adds a lot of flavor. I love your Scones recipe and have used cranberries and blueberries in the scones.
Hello,
I’m wanting to do these in my oven as you mentioned it the post. How much oil should I use for the 12 oz. of cranberries? Same 1 cup of sweetener too? Thank you.
You need to pour boiling water oven them first and let them sit for 15 min to soften. Any that don’t pop can be popped with a fork. Then toss in 1 tablepoon of oil and then the sweetener. You may use less and a cup to coat them.
I made these using the oven method and oh my, what a delight. I eat them in salad, on sugarfree white chocolate bark, and for snacking. They are so good. Everyone I have had try them fell in love. They want me to make them for them. I give them the recipe. I use your sugar substitute as my regular one so I always have it on hand. Thanks again for the recipe. I like the idea of trail mix. I might try that next.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I just used regular store bought ones, thinking it might be “okay.” The sugar involved knocked me out, I needed a nap to recover from the glucose “hit.” I’m so grateful for this recipe!
Can I use Splenda? How much?
I’m sorry I don’t test my recipes with splenda. I’m not sure if it would work.
Thank you so much for making this easy! I love dried cranberries but most of the recipes state to cut the cranberries in half. I need lots of dried cranberries so that would be very tedious. This is so easy and quick to make. I started a batch and immediately decided to double it as I knew they would be good. I have used them in a broccoli salad, chicken salad, scones and on a grilled turkey-provolone sandwich sos far. So so SOOOOO GOOD !!! Thank you for making me so happy!!!
This does not call for any liquid. I see the low and slow, just curious why the sweetener doesn’t burn before the berries pop?
The sweetener melts into a liquid.
