How to Make 4 Ingredient Guacamole Recipe

Step One: Smash the avocados with a fork or potato masher. Stir in the chopped cilantro and other ingredients.

Step Two: Serve with low carb chips, veggies, or pair as a side.
Top Tip💡
If buying avocados from the grocery store, get ripe ones. You can give them a little squeeze to test. They should have a slight give, but not too much. You can also pick off the stem and examine the color underneath. A bright green color means they’re not quite ripe, while a darker green color means they’ll be soft and easy to mash. If you see a dark brown coloring under the stem, it might be too ripe at that point.
Substitutions
- Seasonings – The first time that you make this perfect dip, follow the step-by-step directions on the recipe card. After that, play with the seasonings. You can add black pepper, cayenne pepper for heat, and even Everything Bagel Seasoning for a fun pop of flavor.
- Lemon juice – You can use lemon juice in place of lime juice. Or if you don’t want to add a citrus flavoring, you can leave any of the added juices out completely. It’s entirely up to you.
Variations
- Fresh garlic – If you’re a garlic fan, this can be a great addition. You can also use garlic powder.
- Favorite salsa – Stir in some of your favorite salsa to make this homemade guacamole extra chunky. Adding Roasted Jalapeno Salsa is amazing.

Equipment
You don’t need much to make this simple guacamole recipe. A medium bowl or mixing bowl and a potato masher or fork should do the trick.
Storage
To store leftover guacamole, scoop the extra into an airtight container and keep it in the fridge. You can also cover with a piece of plastic wrap. The surface of the guacamole is going to turn darker in color. When this happens, I just add a little bit more fresh lime juice and give it a good stir. It perks right back up to the brighter green coloring, and I serve and enjoy.
This recipe is best served fresh. I do not recommend freezing.

Common Questions
It takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish.
The options are endless. You can serve it as a dip or appetizer with chips and veggies, or add it as a topping to tacos and bowls. It’s also a super great topping for nachos.
Technically, yes. Just know that if you make it ahead of time, the discoloring is going to happen. Just be sure to give it a good stir before serving.
The texture of the guacamole just depends on how much you mash it. The more you mash it, the creamier and smoother it will be. If you like chunky guacamole, don’t mash it as much. If you want a creamier texture, you’ll need to mash it for quite some time. Using a fork also helps keep the chunks smaller.

we always like lime juice more than the lemon
I’m a “snowbird” here in Mexico. Avocados are plentiful and delicious. This is my go-to recipe for quac……which I have regularly. Sometimes I stir in a little pico de gallo or a little hot salsa to suit my mood. Nothing better than quac and fresh tortilla chips!
Thank you for the recipe!
We LOVE Mexican food and you MUST have guacamole with it. This recipe is fast, easy and delicious! We use it every week…a family favorite!
This recipe was really simple but it actually makes good guacamole. I serve it fairly often with low carb crackers for a quick lunch. Sometimes, I add red onion because I like that flavor in my guac.
