Get ready to love the flavor of this Sugar Free Blueberry Jam. With just four simple ingredients needed, you'll be using this delicious blueberry recipe on anything that you can. It's gluten free, dairy free, keto friendly, and low carb.
This has to be one of my favorite jam recipes. First off, blueberry jam is delicious. Period. And the fact that once you make this jam, you don't have to feel guilty eating it, is always a plus.
The taste of blueberries is so fresh and strong, which is exactly what you'd expect a berry jam recipe to be like. I can't tell you how many times I've eaten a jam, and it tastes nothing like the actual fruit. It's full of so many other additives and ingredients and literally no chunks of real fruit at all.
That's just wrong. If you want berries in your jam jar, make a jam that is full of berries. Speaking of yummy jams, be sure to check out my Keto Strawberry Jam as well. I'm all about delicious jams and love sharing them with all of you.
Having a wide variety of homemade jams and jellies in the house saves time and money. It's just a misconception that making jellies at home is hard to do. This easy blueberry jam recipe proves that in a short amount of time, you'll have an amazing flavor and taste. This is my go-to jam recipe when blueberries are ripe and in season every single year!
Ingredients
Blueberries - Blueberries are so good! I typically just use frozen blueberries in this recipe but if you have an abundance of fresh blueberries you can use those as well - so you have options.
Joy Filled Eats Sweetener - The perfect sweetener for the perfect amount of sweetness. You can also add Stevia or a sweetener of your choice. I give suggestions in the recipe card on sweetener conversions.
Lemon zest - A little bit of citrus goes well with the blueberries.
Xanthan gum - This is needed to add a bit of thickness to the jam.
How To Make Sugar Free Blueberry Jam
Step One: Combine the blueberries, sweetener, and zest in a small saucepan.
Step Two: Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step Three: Sprinkle the xanthan gum over the blueberries and mix in well. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Transfer to mason jars or other storage containers. Store in the refrigerator.
Variations
Lemon juice - Just a squeeze of lemon juice can add a really great flavor.
Extracts - You can vary the flavor of the jam by adding vanilla extract or even almond extract. For a stronger lemon flavor, or if you don't have lemon zest, add lemon extract.
Spices - Cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg go well with blueberries. Add a pinch and taste it. You can add as much as you like.
Herbs - This sounds a little crazy but adding a sprig of rosemary or thyme while the jam simmers gives a lovely, fresh, herbal flavor.
Chia seeds - If you want a bit more texture, adding chia seeds can be a good option. If you add chia you can omit the xanthan gum because it is a natural thickener.
Change up the fruit - This sugar-free jam can be made with blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries as well. Switch it up to get different flavors.
Common Questions
How do you store this keto blueberry jam?
I like to store it in wide-mouth jars so that I can dip in a spoon and get out what I need. You can also store this in a bowl or any type of container with lids. Having seals or lids is important to keep it fresh.
Be sure to keep it stored in the fridge for the best results. Be sure that you don't lick the spoon and dip it back into the jar! This is a fast way to spread germs and to get germs growing in the jar. Always use a clean spoon to dip! It can keep for 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator. Or you can freeze it for longer storage.
What would this blueberry jam recipe taste good on?
Can I say everything because that's how I feel! The kids love eating it on waffles and pancakes, and I'm all for that! This mixture is full of nutrients and is so much better than any of the sauces that you'll buy at the store.
I also think that adding this to low carb bread is delicious. Nothing like this and bread and a hot cup of coffee to start the day. Since you can eat this on a keto diet, be creative in how you enjoy it.
For a sugar free diet go ahead and enjoy it on some sourdough English muffins like in my photos!
You can even mix it with some yogurt for a creamy treat. Or drizzle some on top of keto vanilla ice cream for a flavorful addition.
Can you freeze this jam recipe for later?
You can. If you want to add this to the freezer, just be sure that you store it in the right container that is freezer-safe. This is a great way to make a few containers that you can enjoy later.
When you're ready to eat and enjoy, just unthaw by placing it in the fridge. It won't take long to thaw out and will be ready to eat in no time at all.
