Add this to cupcakes, cake, cookies, or drizzle on top of homemade ice cream as well. You can't go wrong with however you want to use this delicious pecan caramel sauce.
What I love most about this recipe is that it really is the perfect topping for any dessert. If you're a fan of brownies, add it. If you want to drizzle it on your angel food cake, go for it. If you're like me and sometimes just want to eat a bite of it off a spoon, go for it. You only live once, right?

Heavy cream - The heavy cream adds a richness in flavor and a thicker texture to the sauce.
Butter - Melting the butter with the cream in the saucepan creates the perfect drizzling texture. I use salted butter for this.
Joy Filled Eats sweetener - This is the go-to sweetener that I use for my low carb and keto baking recipes. When it cooks it caramelizes eliminating the need for dark brown sugar or a light brown sugar sweetener.
Pecans - You can break them up a little bit and also leave some of them whole.
Coarse salt - The salt adds the perfect sweet and salty mix to every bite. You can use coarse sea salt or kosher salt.
How To Make Keto Caramel Pecan Sauce
Step One: Bring the heavy cream, butter, and sweetener to a gentle boil over medium heat and cook stirring frequently until it is light golden brown and thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Step Two: Remove from the heat and let cool for a few minutes.
Expert Tip: Want plain caramel sauce? You can then add the sauce to a jar or container and skip the step of adding nuts and salt.
Step Three: Roast the pecans until flavorful. This takes about 6 minutes at 400.
Step Four: Chop or crush the roasted pecans so that they're of varying sizes and pieces. You can add the chopped pecans and coarse salt right on top of the caramel sauce in the container or stir them in while in the saucepan.
Step Five: Serve while warm!
Vanilla - If you want to add a little bit of vanilla, do so. You can stir it in with the ingredients cooking on the stove. It adds a yummy warmth.
Cinnamon - During the fall months, I like to add a little bit of cinnamon as well. It just pairs so well and reminds me of fall!
Nuts - Even though the pecans are the star of the show, you could easily make this same recipe using peanuts, walnuts, or cashews.
Bourbon - Add a tablespoon of bourbon whiskey after the sauce cools for 5-10 minutes. It really gives it an amazing flavor.
Chocolate - Mix in a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder while the sauce is cooling.
What is the best way to chop pecans?
You can add the pecans to a sealable plastic bag and hit them with a rolling pin to break them up. You can also just break a few by hand as well - totally up to you. Adding them to a food processor is also a fast and easy option as well but just be sure that you're not overmixing them because you want them to be bigger pieces to have that crunch.
What is the best way to store this caramel sauce mixture?
Once you make this treat, you'll want to keep it stored in an airtight container in the fridge. As long as you have a lid on it, it should be good to use for up to 7 days.
To reheat, you can add back to a pan on the stove or even scoop a little bit and put it into the microwave as well.
What is a serving sauce for homemade caramel sauce?
The serving size for this recipe is 2 tablespoons. Using that serving size on your desserts or breakfast is also 1.1 grams of total net carbs.
Can this be used on all types of desserts and treats?
It can be. I think that this would be amazing on a cheesecake, on top of blondies, or even drizzled all over waffles as well. It's such a smooth and delicious taste that it shouldn't be hard to find many ways to use it!
