I’m all about the Starbucks flavors, without paying that Starbucks price. Don’t get me wrong. I like to splurge every once in a while, but when I can make my own Starbucks’ vanilla latte with sugar-free syrup, I will do that easily at home over and over again.

Let’s not forget the fact that the Starbucks menu has options, but I’m all about consistency! Not stressing over sugar content and being able to whip up my own copycat latte Starbucks drink at home is one of my favorite things to do.

I make this during the holiday season quite a bit because it’s like a homemade gift to myself over and over again. I love that I can drink it on the keto diet and not stress out about carbohydrates and weight gain.

Speaking of yummy coffee shop drinks, be sure to check out my Starbucks Skinny Vanilla Latte & Frappuccino Recipe as well. Another great way to save calories without compromising flavor.

Ingredients

Unsweetened almond milk – You could also use soy milk or coconut milk, but this will change the nutritional value.

Heavy cream – Needed to add richness and texture.

Espresso – Strong coffee will work just fine as well.

Joy filled eats sweetener My go-to natural sweetener

Vanilla – Perfect for adding a hint of vanilla in each sip.

How to make Starbucks Sugar Free Vanilla Latte

Step One: Mix all the ingredients together in your favorite coffee mug.

Step Two: Heat the mixture in the microwave to your liking. Stir.

Warm it up in the microwave longer if you want it to be hot. Just be careful when grabbing the handle of the mug, as that might be extremely hot, too. Different coffee cups hold temperatures differently throughout, so being careful is key.

Step Three: Add whipped cream. (this can be optional as well. You don’t have to add whipped cream on top.)

You can also reheat the drink if it cools down, but the whipped cream will melt into the drink this way. Still yummy, but it won’t look as pretty.

Variations

Variations are always fun to use, but they do change the values of the drink. The printable recipe card listed below shows the calories, carbohydrates, and more for the exact recipe as written and doesn’t take into account any variations.

Use other sugar substitutes – While I’m not a fan of Splenda or other artificial sweetener options, you can use any sugar-free sweetener that you have.

Add sugar-free vanilla syrup – A few pumps of syrup are great for flavor!

Change it into an iced drink – Iced coffee is super popular and easy to do. Once you heat and stir, you can add ice cubes to cool and make it cold. You can also add a splash of dairy milk/skim milk as well.

Common Questions

What are some fun topping ideas for a latte?

That all depends on your diet and your caloric intake. Drizzling some chocolate on top is always fun, but it may not be part of your low calorie diet.

Adding a dollop of whipped cream on top is optional as well, but it sure is great to have! You can also sprinkle some cinnamon on top of the whipped cream, and that helps to make it a really festive treat!

Can you make this caffeine-free?

You bet. If you want to make this drink without caffeine, just use decaf coffee instead of espresso. That way, you’ll still get that coffee taste and flavor without the actual ingredient.

Can I make a latte in advance?

Since this is such a simple drink to make, I always recommend making it fresh. You just need a few moments of time, and it’ll be hot and ready. Simple as that!

If you try and make it in advance, just be sure that you stir it really well and heat it thoroughly before serving.

Can I use leftover coffee?

Absolutely. Even though a lot of people use espresso coffee for this Starbucks’ vanilla latte recipe, I like to use leftover coffee. There are days when I’ll make a large pot of coffee and have quite a bit left, and I know exactly how to use it so that it’s not wasted.

Just pour the coffee into your mug, and go along with the rest of the recipe. It’s really as simple as that.

Instructions

  • Combine ingredients in a large mug.
  • Heat in the microwave until your desired temperature. Mix well.
  • Top with whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

Notes on Sweeteners:
I use my own blend of xylitol, erythritol, and stevia in my recipes. This is twice as sweet as sugar. It is comparable to Trim Healthy Mama Gentle Sweet and Truvia.
To sub in Swerve or Lakanto Monk Fruit use 1.5 times the amount of sweetener called for.

To sub in Pyure or Trim Healthy Mama Super Sweet use half the amount of sweetener called for.

Substitutions will work in most recipes. They may not work in candies, such as caramel.

  1. Hey there, it’s Sheena! I commented before about half-and-half and using a Keurig coffee machine. So, today, I made the recipe like this. I put 4 tablespoons of monk fruit sweetener, the granulated stuff from Canadian Costco, 1 cup unsweetened vanilla oat milk, (I used Earths Own unsweetened vanilla shelf-stable oat milk,) 1 fourth cup 5 percent cream, half a cup of Tim Hortons coffee using my Keurig and a K cup, some vanilla extract and some whipped cream on top. And oh, it is good!!! smells good as well! Wow! This is good! But how do you make it iced or cold? I love iced coffee, so I’m wondering how to make it iced? Thank you so much!

    1. Hi Sheena, just make the coffee and chill it. You can put it in the freezer for an hour or so to chill it faster than the fridge does. I have a filter that goes in a big mason jar to make cold brew coffee for the summer. I would highly recommend it. Then I make enough for 3-4 large iced coffees at once. This is the filter I use: https://amzn.to/3X26tPd

  2. Hello there! Can I make this using a Keurig? I have a reusable filter and I put grounds in it. So if I use the 6 ounce setting, and then scoop out half a cup, would that work? Also, do I have to wait till the coffee cools down? I have 2% milk and half-and-half. I don’t have heavy cream. I use Lecanto monk fruit as well. Are all those things good to use in this? Also, I have vanilla extract. Thank you!
