Elderberry Good Girl Moonshine. Immune boosting and delicious. This is the perfect sipper for those germy winter months.

Being a mom of 4 makes immune support very important to me. When one of us gets sick normally it goes through the whole house. Fortunately, my kids rarely get sick. I make sure they have a balanced diet, take a couple immune boosting supplements, are regularly exposed to healthy germs, and are active daily. About once a year we all get some sort of sickness. Last year we got the flu which was pretty darn awful. But at least it wasn’t a stomach bug. Those are brutal.

When Rodger from Norm’s Farms contacted me and I took a peek at their website I could barely contain my excitement.

Norm’s Farms sells Elderberry Extract which is naturally sugar free!

When I started Trim Healthy Mama I wasn’t sure what to do since the elderberry syrup I’ve made in the past was mostly honey. Now I have an excellent alternative.

If you are making this for your kids and don’t mind if they have a little honey this Elderberry Syrup is a great recipe to try!

And for another immune booster try a Ginger Turmeric Shot!

I decided to use my new Elderberry Extract to make a classic Trim Healthy Mama drink: Good Girl Moonshine. This has ginger and apple cider vinegar which both have health boosting qualities as well. Adding the Elderberry Extract to those two just takes GGMS to a whole new level.

Want to learn more about elderberries? Here is some information courtesy of Norm’s Farms:

Elderberries are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants and are known for boosting the immune system. While the exact mechanism of how elderberry stimulates the immune system is not fully understood, scientists generally agree that elderberry’s high concentration of certain kinds of antioxidants, called bioflavonoids, are probably involved.

Elderberries Contain Powerful Amounts Of: * antioxidants * vitamin A * vitamin C * vitamin B-6 * thiamin * riboflavin * niacin * folate * calcium * iron * magnesium * phosphorus * potassium * copper

You can visit Norm’s Farms to purchase Elderberry Extract. They have several other elderberry products and even sell elderberry cuttings. I may try growing my own elderberries! They offer free shipping over $49.

Notes

Notes on Sweeteners:
I use my own blend of xylitol, erythritol, and stevia in my recipes. This is twice as sweet as sugar. It is comparable to Trim Healthy Mama Gentle Sweet and Truvia.
To sub in Swerve or Lakanto Monk Fruit use 1.5 times the amount of sweetener called for.

To sub in Pyure or Trim Healthy Mama Super Sweet use half the amount of sweetener called for.

Substitutions will work in most recipes. They may not work in candies, such as caramel.

  3. something to note is that elderberries are toxic unless cooked. so when using berries/extracts, make sure you have cooked them first before using 🙂

  4. Oh my gosh! Thank you for sharing about the elderberry. I bought some from Norm’s Farms and it literally changed my life. I also have been drinking this good girl moonshine too! I have had cancer twice and my immune system is very poor. I had been sick for over two months and could not recover and I was so afraid that I was going to end of in the hospital. I could not recover from a cold, cough, you name it. My doctor was scaring me and telling me not to go anywhere and stay away from people especially anyone who was sick. But when I got this extract it changed everything! Within a few hours of taking it I stopped coughing! I have been coughing for almost three months and sick for over two months. I will not miss a single dose of this! I take it every morning and drink it a couple of times a week as moonshine! Thank you so much! Hugs!5 stars

  5. I’m not sure if I’m a good girl, but I love elderberries. I have been so sick, this might be a great drink to get healthy again.

  6. I love the taste of elderberries. When I was little we used to pick them and make our own juice. Love the idea of your immune-boosting drink – especially the addition of ginger!

  7. I have been drinking ACV in water for years, but I think adding elderberry extract is absolute genius. I’m going to try it. I always seem to need an immunity boost this time of year with a boy in elementary school. Eight year old boys seldom wash their hands without being told! 🙂

  8. Amazing! I was brewing a cup of elderberry tea this morning from dried elderberries when I thought to myself: I wonder if I could make this into a GGMS!
Thanks for showing me that it would work 🙂

  9. We always had elderberry jelly growing up. It grows wild in the road ditches here. I didn’t know it was so healthy. Will have to go pick some next year!

    1. Same! Mom would send us down the road a little way to where the elderberry bushes were growing in the ditch along the road. We’d pick the berries and Mom would make elderberry jelly. So good! Now I’m wondering if the elderberries still grow in that same place.
