I promise you that this easy recipe is going to be a hit. I’ve yet to find anyone who doesn’t love eating these bacon-wrapped chicken legs, myself included! The crispy bacon on the outside, with the tender chicken inside, makes for a yummy bite loaded with flavor.

The fun part about making delicious recipes is eating them. You get to choose the best way to eat these bacon-wrapped chicken drumsticks, like adding hot sauce or barbecue sauce, and you can change it up each time!

Ingredients

  • Chicken legs – The chicken skin needs to be removed for this recipe.
  • Bacon – You can use a thick-cut strip of bacon, or any cut will work.
  • Salt – Since bacon is salty I only use a bit of salt on the chicken.
  • Pepper – For flavor. Add as much or as little as you like.

See recipe card for quantities.

Step Three: Put the pan in the oven and bake for 45-55 minutes until the bacon is crispy.

Top Tip💡

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the tender chicken drumsticks. For the chicken to be considered fully cooked, the reading should be 165 degrees. It may even be as high as 185 or 190 by the time the bacon is crispy. But don’t worry. Cooking dark meat that high isn’t an issue. It will still be tender.

Substitutions

  • Thick-cut bacon – Vary the type of bacon used for this recipe. You can use thick-cut, thin, or even flavored. Maple bacon would add a sweet flavoring, while black pepper bacon would add a bit of spice. Any slice of bacon will work.

Variations

  • Brown sugar – If you want a pop of sweetness, sprinkle a little bit of brown sugar (or brown sugar sweetener) on the chicken skin before wrapping it in bacon.
  • Seasonings – While I like to use salt and pepper, you can also season the chicken with garlic powder, a dry rub, or any other flavors and spice that you like.

Equipment

All you need to make these is a sharp knife, baking sheet, parchment paper, and toothpicks. No special equipment is needed!

Storage

Be sure to store leftover chicken properly so that you can enjoy the flavor again the next day! Make sure that the bacon-wrapped drumsticks are cooled to room temperature, and then store them in an airtight container. Keep them in the fridge until you are ready to reheat and heat. For the best results, eat within 2 days.

Common Questions

Are there other cooking methods I can use?

Sure! You can cook this in the air fryer. Air fryer recipes tend to cook a bit more quickly because of the hot air, so be sure to check the internal temperature of the chicken to make sure that it’s cooked all the way.

How do I reheat leftover chicken drumsticks?

Reheating is a breeze! You can pop them back into the oven to reheat or place them in a single layer in the air fryer. If you want to reheat the legs so that the bacon is crispy, reheating in the air fryer works best.

Do I have to cook this recipe with the bacon on?

Not at all. If you want to make a couple of the drums without bacon, do so. You would still cook the chicken the exact same way and check the internal temperature to be sure that it is done and cooked all the way through.

How do I serve bacon wrapped chicken?

I like serving these with BBQ sauce and other fun dips. I like letting everyone dip in whatever they want, creating their own flavor profile.

You can also easily pair this with some of your favorite side dishes to create a simple weeknight meal. When it comes to this easy chicken recipe, there is no right or wrong way to prepare it.
