Ingredients

  • Smoked salmon – You can get this at the grocery store, cooked and ready to use. You can also make smoked salmon at home.
  • Keto crackers – You can make your own or buy them in the low-carb aisle.
  • Broccoli florets – Save yourself prep time and buy broccoli that is prepped and ready.
  • Sour cream – Plain Greek yogurt or cream cheese can be used as well.
  • Mini zucchini – Clean and cut into thin slices. Half of a regular zucchini would also work. If it is large you might only need a quarter of one.

Variations

  • Add lemon juice – Don’t forget to squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice on top of these salmon appetizer bites!
  • Add other toppings – You can add a little bit of fresh dill, lemon zest, sesame seeds, red onion, or even a bit of bacon as well. Topping with green onion is good, too!
  • Use cucumbers – If you don’t want to use the crackers, you don’t have to. You can use a cucumber slice in place of the crackers and create salmon cucumber bites instead. Just clean an English cucumber well and then slice it thin.
  • Use cream cheese – Some people prefer using a cream cheese mixture or a cream cheese spread in place of the sour cream. Either is fine. Just know that the cream cheese is going to be thicker in texture, and it might be a good idea to use whipped cream cheese instead, as it’s easier to smooth and spread.
  • Lemon dill cream cheese – Leave out the broccoli and season cream cheese with lemon zest and fresh dill.
  • Pimento cheese – Try swapping in my Old Fashioned Pimento Cheese for the sour cream.

Common Questions

Can I make salmon recipes like this ahead of time?

You can make the sour cream portion ahead of time, but for the best results, I would recommend not compiling it until right before you are getting ready to serve. This is because you don’t want the crackers to get soft or soggy, as that would take away the crunch factor.

Just prep as much as you can, and then piece the bites together right before serving for the best results.

How do I store the salmon pieces until I’m ready to use them?

Be sure to store the salmon chunks or salmon cubes in an airtight container in the fridge. You need to make sure that you keep that container locked tightly, or your entire fridge is going to smell like salmon.

What are fun ways to serve this salmon appetizer?

The great thing about making this easy recipe is that the options for serving are endless. It’s fancy enough to serve at parties and gatherings, but it’s also perfect for enjoying at home.

You can make this as a simple appetizer for the family to snack on before dinner or have it as a starter for guests. The health benefits of adding salmon to your diet are a huge perk, too!

To fancy up the dish, just make sure that you add these salmon canapes to a fancy platter so that it really steals the spotlight on the table. This would be great for family dinners, holidays, birthdays, parties, and anything else that you can think of. The flavor and taste really make it versatile to enjoy!
