These Sesame Chicken Appetizer Bites are a healthy and hearty appetizer you will feel good about serving your guests. Tender chicken is wrapped in golden dough with a hint of onion and sprinkled with sesame seeds. They are great plain or served with ranch or blue cheese dip. This easy recipe is low carb, keto, gluten-free, grain-free, sugar-free, and Trim Healthy Mama friendly.
I'm taking a break from all the cookies to share one of my favorite appetizers. I made this for the first time over a decade ago and have made it many times since then. However, I used to use canned crescent rolls. Gasp. The original recipe was in a Pillsbury Best of the Bake-Off cookbook from the mid-90s. It's a good thing low carb mozzarella dough can sub in so many recipes.
I love that you don't need to precook the chicken for this recipe. Handling raw meat is not my favorite thing but I offer it up for the yumminess of these Sesame Chicken Bites.

Ingredients
Dough Ingredients:
- 8 oz mozzarella
- 2 oz cream cheese
- ⅓ cup almond flour
- ⅓ cup coconut flour
- ⅓ cup ground golden flax or additional almond flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
Other Ingredients:
- 1 lb raw chicken tenders cut into 1 inch pieces
- 1 egg
- ⅔ cup shredded parmesan
- ⅙ cup minced dried onion
- 1 teaspoon garlic
- ½ teaspoon salt
Blue Cheese Dip:
- 4 oz blue cheese
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- ⅓ cup mayo
- ½ teaspoon garlic
Ranch Dip:
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- ⅓ cup mayo
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Put the mozzarella and cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave one minute. Stir. Microwave 30 seconds. Stir. At this point, all the cheese should be melted. Microwave 30 more seconds until uniform and gloopy (it should look like cheese fondue at this point). Add the rest of the dough ingredients and the cheese to a food processor. Mix using the dough blade until a uniform color. If you do not have a food processor you can mix in a medium bowl with a wooden spoon but you may need to dump it onto wax paper and knead it by hand to thoroughly incorporate the ingredients. Press out into a large rectangle and cut into the same number of pieces as pieces of chicken.
- To assemble put the pieces of chicken in one bowl, add the beaten egg and stir so they all get coated in egg. Combine the cheeses and seasonings in another bowl. Take one piece of chicken and roll it around in the cheese onion mixture. Take one piece of dough and wrap it around the chicken. Put on the cookie sheet. (Don't worry if they look messy, you can't tell once they are baked. It helps to keep your fingers moistened so the dough doesn't stick to them). Repeat. Once they are all done brush with a little water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the dough is golden and the chicken is fully cooked.
- To make the dips: stir together all the ingredients in a medium bowl.
