Taco Tuesday is always a hit in our home. But when we look at all the different choices and flavor combinations that can be created with several different Mexican and southwest flavors, I think any night of the week is good for tacos, or better yet, their big brother, Fajitas. Tuesdays can be blah, but Fridays are awesome.  Here we go with Fajita Fridays.

Fajitas are great, especially if you are trying to cut down on carbs. My husband does not get excited about a taco salad. He is never a fan of a burrito bowl. But when I mention we are having steak fajitas, he just focuses on the word steak. He is a carnivore through and through(I have a few kids that take after him). The great news is that my fajita seasoning is good on all of it. Steak, chicken, veggies, or whatever kind of fajitas you are planning.

How to Make Keto Fajita Seasoning

Making this steak fajita seasoning recipe at home is as simple as stirring together the right amount and combination of spices.

My fajita seasoning mix uses cayenne pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, salt, crushed red pepper, and smoked paprika. Unlike store-bought fajita seasonings, it doesn’t have any fillers or additives.

The smoked paprika is my secret ingredient to really boost the flavor in this keto fajita seasoning!

Expert Tip: My recommendation is to prep all the veggies, guac, cheese, queso, cauliflower rice, cilantro, or anything you are going to top your fajita with, prior to grilling the meat. If you are grilling your veggies to accompany the fajita, grill them first, it is easy to keep them hot while you cook the meat.

We have all been in the restaurant and we hear that sizzle, the cast iron fajita plate being brought out to an exciting diner. It is so important to serve your fajitas sizzling hot.

How to Serve Keto Fajitas

I mentioned that my husband is not a fan of taco salads and such. But wrapping a lettuce leaf around a hot piece of steak is something he will do anytime. Iceberg lettuce has a wide leaf is great for loading up with fajita fixings. It is also thick and rigid enough to not wilt immediately as you put hot items into it.

This versatile spice blend is delicious on all of the following fajita options:

  1. Veggie Fajitas – Grill, bake or saute a combination of sweet onions, bell peppers, yellow squash, and zucchini for an amazing vegetarian fajita.
  2. Chicken Fajitas – These are my personal fave. I use this spice blend on my Baked Chicken Fajitas and in my Chicken Fajita Casserole all the time. And for a fancier presentation try my Fajita Stuffed Chicken.
  3. Pork Fajitas – Pork is a nice change from standard fajita fare – our favorite Mexican restaurant makes the best pork fajitas! Make sure to use dark meat pork instead of pork loin.
  4. Shrimp Fajitas – Using shrimp in fajitas is a great choice for a lighter meal! Definitely use less seasoning than you would on any of the meats.

  • Combine all the ingredients in a small container.
  • Use 2-3 tablespoons per pound of meat.

Notes

*** for a more mild-flavored fajita seasoning simply cut back on or omit the cayenne and crushed red pepper. Sometimes I add black pepper and sometimes I don’t. It is great either way.
Storage: this will keep for months in your pantry in an airtight container.

  1. Delicious. So much flavor, not too spicy. 2 tablespoons went perfectly over 1.4 lbs of chicken tenders, 1 green bell pepper, and 1/3 red onion. Then it served 4 people, so overall very low in carbs, too.5 stars

  2. I’d give this 10 stars if I could! I had been using your taco seasoning recipe but, after cutting all store-bought, packaged seasonings from my diet a year and a half ago, I had missed enjoying fajitas and Nachos Mexicanos. Not tonight! Thanks to coming across your fajita seasoning recipe, I was able to indulge again tonight! There’s a difference, though. I LOVE the flavor of your seasoning sooooo much more than the terribly unhealthy packaged ones! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!5 stars

  3. This was an excellent season combo. I like it a bit spicier than my family so I just too mine with Tabasco 🌶. For the wrap to be more substantial, I hand shredded some cheddar and microwaved for a minute on parchment paper and set it in a cabbage leaf before scooping in the yummies. I was horrified when I was having a craving and picked up an old El Paso packet I used to use. Ingredients (Corn Starch, Maltodextrin, Salt, Sugar, Sea Salt, Spice, Chili Pepper. Contains 2% Or Less Of: Vegetable Oil (Canola, Soybean And/Or Sunflower Oil), Citric Acid, Artificial Color, Yeast Extract, Onion Powder, Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking Agent), Natural Smoke Flavor, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder.) !!!!! HOLY GUACAMOLE.

  4. This seasoning made our taco night fantastic. I used it on grilled portobello mushrooms for a vegetarian dinner and we loved the flavor.5 stars

    1. Excellent fajita seasoning, and unlike store bought, not full of unnecessary CARBS. I mixed up a batch X8, so 1/2 cup of each 1 tablespoon of seasoning. Whisked in bowl and poured into a labeled ziploc bag. Smells amazing! I have chili and taco seasoning too. Cut out carbs and better flavor, yes!5 stars

  5. Used this to make beef fajitas and it was awesome! I am going to make a big batch and use it going forward instead of buying seasoning!5 stars

  6. This seasoning is fabulous! We had chicken fajitas and it made them so delicious, much better than anything from a packet. I also love how easy it fits into so many different diets.5 stars

  7. This is such a good recipe! Love that I don’t have to go searching for fajita packets anymore5 stars
