Ingredients
Strawberries - Strawberries that are fresh and ripe are delicious in this drink. This is also a great way to use leftover strawberries that need to be eaten up.
Lime - Use the lime for the lime juice as well as to garnish.
Gin - Pick your favorite brand of gin and enjoy.
How To Make a Strawberry Gimlet
Step One: Clean and cut up the strawberries.
Step Two: Add the strawberries and sliced lime into the muddler and muddle them well. You want to squish out all the juice.
Step Three: Add the gin to your cocktail shaker.
Step Four: Pour the mixture into your favorite martini glass or cocktail glass.
Variations
Use lemons - If you don't have limes on hand, you can easily swap them out for lemons. Just be sure to clean the outside of the lemon like you would the lime before using.
Add syrup - To kick up that sweet strawberry flavor, add in some strawberry simple syrup or regular simple syrup. A little bit of strawberry syrup will go a long way. Make a batch of my keto simple syrup recipe and add some strawberry flavoring. Leftover syrup keeps for weeks in the fridge.
Add a little bit of basil - A strawberry basil gimlet sounds really refreshing! Add a few basil leaves for flavor.
Fresh rosemary - Add a sprig of rosemary for a fresh herbal taste.
Pour in some club soda - If you don't want a strong gin flavor, you can add a little bit of club soda to even it out.
Garnish with cucumber slices - If you don't want to garnish with lemon or lime, add a refreshing slice of cucumber.
Common Questions
What is the difference between a martini and a gimlet?
A lot of people think that the two are the same, but there is a difference. A gimlet has fresh juice in it, while a martini does not. (which means that it's a sweeter drink than a martini as well)
What if I don't have a juicer?
A juicer is an important step for this sweet cocktail, but you do have options. If you can use a potato masher to mash the large strawberries and then double strain the juice, that is one way to go about making this easy strawberry gimlet. You would then have to just squeeze the lime juice by hand as well.
This will change up the flavor a little bit, but it's a better option than not being able to make this delicious cocktail.
Can I make a gimlet cocktail with vodka?
It's your summer gimlet drink. Add in whatever type of alcohol that you'd like! If you aren't fans of gin you can try it with vodka or even run. You can even leave out the alcohol and make it kid-friendly as well.
How do you serve a gimlet?
For the best results, you're going to want to have a chilled martini glass ready and waiting. You can also add in a few ice cubes, too. Once you shake and pour, it should be served immediately since it's a chilled drink.
If you don't have martini glasses, don't stress! You can also pour it into a mason jar and drink it that way.
Should you chill a strawberry gimlet cocktail before serving?
You can implement a chilling process if you want. Just be sure that you give it a good shake again before serving. If it sits for too long, the strawberry juice may start to settle a bit.
Since there is minimal prep time needed, you can whip it up and store it in the fridge to serve shortly. I wouldn't make this that far ahead, maybe just like 30 minutes ahead of time or so to start to chill.
