Ingredients

  • Dried oregano – A must for any Greek seasoning recipe. If you have Greek oregano, you can use that. It has a bolder flavor than regular oregano.
  • ​Garlic powder and onion powder – Add hints of onion and garlic flavor.
  • Dried parsley – Needed to balance flavors. 
  • Lemon zest – One of those secret ingredients that really pop.
  • Salt – You can use sea salt or even flavored salt to change up the taste.

How to Make Greek Seasoning

Step One: Add all the ingredients together in a small bowl. Stir. Store in a mason jar or an airtight container out of direct sunlight.

You can use fresh or dried zest. When using fresh lemon zest, the spice blend should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 2 weeks. Dried lemon zest can keep for months in the pantry. You can dry lemon zest easily by spreading it out on parchment paper and letting it sit out overnight. 

Variations

  • Spicy Greek Seasoning – Add crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Salt-Free Greek Seasoning – Omit the salt and season foods separately.
  • Extra Lemon Greek Seasoning – Increase the lemon zest for a brighter flavor.
  • Herb-Heavy Blend – Add extra oregano, parsley, thyme, dill, marjoram, and/or basil.
  • Gyro Blend – Add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg.

Equipment

All you need to make this Greek seasoning mix is a small bowl and a spoon or whisk for storing. You will also need an airtight container for storage.

Storage

Once you have everything measured and mixed, store it in a sealed container or bag, and keep it in your spice pantry. This doesn’t need to be refrigerated to stay fresh. The key is to keep it in a dark area, away from heat and light.
