Air Fryer Filet Mignon is classy, delicious, and juicy. You only need 10 minutes to cook this lip-smacking main course. Serve with your favorite sides, and you have a meal fit for a king! It's keto, low carb, gluten-free, and grain-free.
Raise your hand if you have at least 1 family member that could eat steak for just about every meal! Pretty sure most of us do. While we don't make steak all the time because it can get a little pricy, once in a while, it's a splurge worth spending on.
Guess what! You can make tender and juicy steak without even turning on the grill. That's where the air fryer comes in and does all the work.
If you don't have an air fryer yet, now is the time to jump on the bandwagon. They are seriously the best kitchen gadget ever. You can cook all sorts of air fryer recipes, and your food ends up crispy without all the grease from deep fat frying. My air fryer whole chicken has been one of our go-to dinners this summer.
Because filet mignon is such a delicious cut of meat, you don't need hardly anything for ingredients. If you'd like suggestions on organic meat delivery check out my review on the top companies.
- Filet Mignon - Naturally, the star of this show is going to be the steak! I love the texture of filet mignon, plus it's elegant when you are cooking for guests.
- Olive Oil - You'll need a little bit of olive oil to help brown the outside of the steak. You only need 1 teaspoon, so it's not very much.
- Salt & Pepper - The only seasonings I use are salt and pepper. You can add more if you want other flavors, like a favorite steak seasoning, but it's entirely up to you.
That's it! Now you are ready to cook an air fryer steak in no time!
How To Cook Filet Mignon in an Air Fryer
Step One: Pat the steak dry with a paper towel. It is best to let it come up to room temperature before cooking. If you are cooking a cold steak you may need to add a minute or two to the cooking time.
Step Two: Drizzle and rub olive oil on both sides. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Step Three: Place in the air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, flipping the air fried filet mignon halfway through.
Expert Tip: You can make multiple air fryer filet mignon steaks at once as long as they can fit in the basket in a single layer with touching.
How Long Does it Take to Cook a Filet Mignon in an Air Fryer?
About 10 minutes. If you like your steak cooked rare you want to check it at 8 minutes. If you prefer a more well-done steak just check it at 12 minutes and then every 2 minutes until it is your desired doneness. It is very easy to cook the perfect filet mignon when you use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
Steak Internal Temperatures
While I cook our steaks for 10 minutes for a perfect medium rare, you may want to make a few adjustments. Here is the breakdown of the internal temperature and the results.
Rare | The internal temperature should reach 125 degrees for a rare filet mignon. It will have a center that is cool and will be red.
Medium Rare | The center needs to be 135 degrees. Visually the center is going to be red and be slightly warm.
Medium | The temperature needs to be 145 degrees for a medium filet mignon. The center is going to be reddish-pink, and it will be warm.
Medium Well | The internal temperature should be 150 degrees. The center is going to be pink, without any red for a medium well filet mignon.
Well Done | Use a meat thermometer to make sure the temperature is 160 degrees. There is going to be very little or no pink in the center.
What Can I Top Air Fryer Filet Mignon With?
Honestly, you don't need to top the steak from this filet mignon recipe with anything unless you want to. I want to share a few ideas for you to consider trying out:
Garlic Butter: Melt butter and add in minced garlic and some chopped parsley. Use a pastry brush to add it to the steak when you flip it. Then add some more after you remove it from the air fryer. Or just place a slice of flavored compound butter on the finished steak.
Shrimp: Another fun option is to add some grilled shrimp or air fryer shrimp on top. Then you will have a lovely surf and turf meal!
Mexican: Salsa, guacamole, some cooked onions, peppers, and a sprinkle of cilantro are all your need to give this a fajita feel.
Cheese: A little shaved parmesan cheese or blue cheese crumbles are a tasty option as well to add to my air fryer steak recipe.
Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon: Wrap the filet with some bacon before adding to the air fryer. You will need to increase the cooking time by a minute or two.
Do I Cook Steak When It's Cold?
For best results, sit the steak on the counter and let it rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will let it cook properly and will give you much better results. If you are in a hurry, it's okay to skip this step, but if you have the time, it's worth it. To make a frozen filet mignon in an air fryer you will definitely have to increase the cooking time and check it often. My guess is it will take about 15 minutes for medium-rare but I have not had the chance to test this yet. If you find the perfect timing for a frozen filet mignon please let us know in the comments.
Can I Cook Multiple Steaks At Once?
Yes, depending on the size of your air fryer, you can cook more filets. The key is making sure that you have plenty of space between the steaks. An air fryer actually heats up the air, and that is what is going to cook the food. So if the steaks are too close together, then the air can't circulate properly—Cook as many steaks that fit in your air fryer at a time.
What To Serve With Steak
This air fryer filet mignon is excellent on its own, but we also like to include some sides too.
- Vegetables - Roasted veggies are a household favorite. Plus, you don't usually have to put in much effort, and they taste great.
- Mashed Cauliflower - If you are missing potatoes with your steak try this keto mashed cauliflower.
- Salad - We like to serve my zucchini salad or grilled vegetable salad with steak.
- Bread - Make some keto breadsticks or any other rolls that are low carb. They are the perfect complement to the meal.
- 6 oz filet mignon room temperature
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ pepper
- Drizzle the steak with the oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Cook in an air fryer at 400 for 1o minutes, flipping halfway through, for medium-rare.
