Air Fryer Cabbage is the perfect way to cook cabbage wedges! The crispy edges paired with the simple seasonings make this one easy side dish or even a main meal. You will love the ease of this delicious recipe!
This is one of those tasty air fryer recipes that create the perfect healthy vegetable side dish. Air frying the pieces of cabbage with hot air provides so many health benefits! The cooking process maintains the nutrients while adding a nice texture to the tender center. Even picky eaters will agree that this is a great addition to the dinner table.
I also love that this is a low carb side dish that doesn't make you feel like you're missing out on anything. It's called vegetarian steak for a reason! All you need is a head of cabbage to get started and a few other simple ingredients.

Ingredients
Slice of cabbage - Make sure to wash the cabbage, remove the outer leaves, and slice the cabbage into uniform thickness.
Olive oil - Used to hold the seasonings on the top of the cabbage steaks. (You can also use other oils or even an olive oil cooking spray to add to the top of the cabbage steaks)
Salt and pepper - To add seasoning and flavor.
How to make this Air Fryer Cabbage Recipe
Step One: Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees.
Step Two: Add the cabbage to the air fryer basket and rub it with olive oil, salt, and black pepper.
Step Three: Cook for 12 minutes. I have an Instant Pot air fryer so times for other air fryers may vary. You want the edges to be crispy and the center to be fork tender.
Variations
Use your favorite seasoning - You can easily change the taste by changing up the ingredients. Add garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, or any type of seasoning blend you would like.
Use a different oil - Olive oil works great, but you can also use avocado oil, vegetable oil, and coconut oil.
Use different types of cabbage - Making these air fryer cabbage steaks means you can create them in any delicious way you want. You can use Napa cabbage, red cabbage, or any other type of cabbage.
Add toppings - Roasted cabbage tastes so good with parmesan cheese on top or even some fresh parsley!
Common Questions
How do I store leftover cabbage?
Once the tender cabbage has cooked and cooled, you can store it in an air-tight container and keep it in the fridge. This is the best way, and an easy way, to store leftovers that the whole family can enjoy.
It's not recommended to freeze the cabbage slices because they won't freeze and thaw in a way that will hold the consistency or the shape of the vegetarian steaks.
Why are my cabbage pieces not all the same tenderness?
When you air fry cabbage, it's really important that you cut them into uniform slices so that you can achieve that tender perfection. My personal preference is to use a sharp knife and take my time when slicing the cabbage.
Use a cutting board and cut them so that they're similar in thickness. This is the best way that you can ensure that they're going to cook up the same way while they are in the air fryer.
What main course would this veggie dish pair well with?
This recipe makes a great side dish because it pairs with just about anything! It's perfect for St. Patrick's Day and paired with air fryer corned beef, or you can also make it and pair it with pasta dishes.
If you are making this as a low carb recipe for weight loss, cooking an air fryer whole chicken as the main dish is a great way to stick to your healthy eating goals.
What does cabbage taste like?
This is one of those air fryer vegetable recipes that can easily have the flavor changed...but overall, I would say that cooked green cabbage tastes a lot like brussels sprouts. They don't have the same texture or even the same cooking times, but there is something about them that have the same type of flavor.
They're also both low carb and low calorie, making them great for healthy eating. This is one of my favorite recipes because you can also use the leftovers of the cooked cabbage and chop it up to add to stir fry meals! This is a really versatile recipe!
