Ingredients
Hot Sauce - The classic red hot sauce will give the most authentic buffalo sauce flavor. To change it up choose a green hot sauce made from jalapenos.
Cooked Chicken - Any type of cooked cubed or shredded chicken will work.
Cream Cheese - I use full fat cream cheese but low fat cream cheese can also be used. You want to use softened cream cheese for easier mixing.
Sour Cream - I like how the tang of sour cream cuts the richness of the mayo and cream cheese.
Mayo - Make sure to choose a mayo that has a flavor you enjoy.
Cheddar Cheese - Shredded cheddar cheese is my top choice in this keto buffalo chicken dip but shredded mozzarella cheese can be used in a pinch.
Worcestershire Sauce - Worcestershire sauce is a great ingredient to have in the kitchen. It is a condiment that can be found in most grocery stores. It's made of vinegar, molasses, tamarinds, and anchovies.
Seasonings - I use garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black peppers.
Toppings - These are optional but I like to drizzle on some ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing and sprinkle on bacon crumbles right before serving.
How To Make Keto Buffalo Chicken Dip
You’ll be amazed by how simple this low carb buffalo chicken dip is to make. With very few ingredients and just a little bit of time, it’s bound to become a favorite dish.
First Step: Heat the oven to 400 degrees F. Then stir together half of the cheddar cheese and the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, hot sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, Worcestershire, and chicken in a large mixing bowl.
Second Step: Spread the dip ingredients into a deep-dish pie pan, casserole dish, or baking dish and sprinkle on the rest of the cheddar cheese.
Third Step: Bake the dip in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until it’s hot and bubbly. Drizzle on some blue cheese dressing and bacon crumbles if desired.
Variations
Spiciness - You can easily vary the spiciness of this by adding extra hot sauce.
Blue Cheese - If you like the combo of blue cheese dressing and buffalo wings sprinkle some blue cheese crumbles on top before serving.
Green Onions - Chopped green onions (scallions) or fresh chives make a nice garnish and add some color.
Common Questions
What Do You Serve With Buffalo Chicken Dip?
You can really serve this easy gluten free dip recipe with pretty much anything you like. I usually use crisp keto friendly vegetables like cucumbers or thinly sliced zucchini, but I wanted to give you some ideas. Take a look at these ideas to consider:
Celery - Dipping celery sticks into the dip is heavenly. It gives you plenty of crunch, and it’s flavorful too.
Bell Peppers - Slice up some bell pepper pieces and use them to dip in. Any color of pepper will be perfect.
Broccoli - Another favorite vegetable dipper in my house is raw broccoli. Just wash the broccoli and cut it into bite-sized pieces.
Leaf Lettuce - Use large leaf lettuce and add the dip to make a yummy buffalo chicken wrap.
Crackers - I often like to dip these keto cheese crackers into this low carb buffalo chicken dip, and it’s out of this world.
Low Carb Chips - Any kind of keto friendly chips would be good too. They are the perfect way to get all this awesome dip into your mouth.
Pork Rinds - If you enjoy pork rinds, go ahead and use them to eat this dip. They are crispy and flavorful too.
Low Carb Tortilla Chips - There are many brands of keto tortilla chips on the market nowadays or you can make your own.
Low Carb Tortillas - You can also just spoon some dip down the center of a keto friendly tortilla, add some lettuce, and wrap it up.
Is Buffalo Dip Keto?
If you are at a party and see some buffalo dip chances are that it is keto. There might be some additives or preservatives in the ingredients but most of the time it is fine.
It can be tricky to find dippers though as it is normally served with tortilla chips. In the worst-case scenario you can always just spoon some on a plate and eat with a fork.
Can I Make Keto Buffalo Chicken Dip In Advance?
Yes, absolutely! This buffalo chicken dip is fantastic for making ahead of time. You can completely prep the ingredients and add them all to the deep dish pie pan. Cover the pan and put it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Then bake as directed and enjoy! This is a wonderful way to save yourself some time if you are planning an event and don’t have time the day of. It’s a game-changer.
Additionally, you can bake the buffalo chicken dip ahead of time too. Just bake as the instructions state and let it cool down. Once cool, cover and put in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave or in the oven. It makes great leftovers too.
Do I Have To Use Canned Chicken?
No, you don’t have to use canned chicken to make this keto buffalo chicken dip recipe. I stocked up on canned goods a few months ago when 2020 seemed so uncertain and this dip is a great way to use up some of the canned chicken I purchased. No one can tell if I made this with canned chicken.
It’s an easy and quick option that allows you to make an easy buffalo chicken dip with very little planning or notice.
I recommend using cooked chicken breast, shredded chicken, cooked chicken thighs, or rotisserie chicken if you don’t want to use canned. Additionally, you could also use turkey or other kinds of meat for some unique variety too.
Can I Make this is the Slow Cooker, Crock Pot, or Instant Pot?
Sure! Just mix the ingredients together and put them in your cooking device. Cook on low until hot and serve it right out of the crockpot.
