This is a little different than my usual recipe posts but this is a topic that is very important to me. Having a larger than average family means there are more than the average amount of germs floating around my house. When one of us gets sick it tends to hit most or all of us. Making sure we have good, strong immune systems is very important.
A couple of my kids have seasonal allergies but in general, we are very healthy. We normally get one virus a year. Last year we got the flu which was a rough couple of weeks. The year before that we had some similar virus that was 5 days of fever and aches. The year before that was a stomach bug. My favorite. (If you can’t hear my New Jersey sarcasm coming through as you read that try again).
As soon as we hear a virus is going around school we add some extra immune support like vitamin C and elderberry syrup.
There is no perfect diet. Even though we try to eat healthy I’m sure somewhere along the way we are missing an important vitamin or two. Three of my kids are great eaters and eat a large variety of foods. But, if you’ve been following along, I have four kids. The last child is extremely picky and has some food allergies. I am grateful that multi-vitamins are available for her especially.
But supplements also cannot make up for a crummy diet. Our family finds it important to eat healthy, exercise, and take dietary supplements. Multivitamins are the most popular dietary supplement, with 75 percent of supplement users taking one, according to a 2016 survey from the Council for Responsible Nutrition. With more than 170 million Americans taking dietary supplements that is a lot of multivitamins.
There are many choices when it comes to dietary supplements so it is always important to talk to your doctor or another health care provider.
